Why Supplier Data?
The "cradle-to-gate" approach in supplier data, as outlined in the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol, focuses on assessing greenhouse gas emissions from the extraction of raw materials to the point they leave the manufacturer's premises. It excludes the use phase and end-of-life disposal.
Conversely, the "cradle-to-grave" approach encompasses the entire life cycle of a product, from raw material extraction to end-of-life disposal, including manufacturing, distribution, use, maintenance, and recycling. While "cradle-to-gate" offers insight into the environmental impact up to the manufacturing stage, "cradle-to-grave" presents a comprehensive view of a product's total environmental footprint throughout its lifespan.
